Financial Wellness

Good news! This is NOT a post trying to get you to buy a program or sign up for any multi-level-marketing drudgery. This is about dreaming bigger than you are right now.

“Financial wellness is a state of being in which you can meet current and future financial obligations, feel secure in your financial future and make choices that let you enjoy life. Financial wellness can also reduce preoccupation with money needs and improve your mental and physical well-being.” This is Terry Turner’s definition of financial wellness in his article in Retire Guide. I think it sums it up beautifully. We want freedom to do the things we love.

“Well wouldn’t that be nice?!”
“Easier said than done, sis.”
“I’m working myself to death and barely making it.”

I see you. This is for you. It’s a goal to work toward - like any other category of wellness. Don’t beat yourself up for not being where you wanted to be by now. My goal is to help you discover things you already do, or things you’re already gifted at.

I like to advocate for the voiceless. I do it naturally, so I decided I wanted to make that available to others. I can see my value, and while it may not be helpful for everyone, it’s right for some people. I don’t need to help EVERYONE to keep me from helping SOMEONE. If you’re crafty, make things! Art is the most wonderful thing in the world. Something you create could bring joy and healing and beauty to your home and community.

I helped each of my daughters start a business over this past summer. They had to plan out what they would need, shop for their materials, and but everything together. They bought their start up supplies and they put in the work to make things. I’m currently in the process of making them a tab on the menu bar so they can sell their things online. They’ve been doing pop-up shops in our community. Out of the 3 girls, one of them makes the coolest resin art and earrings, one makes the best scrunchies, and one makes fun beaded wire jewelry. It was all self-taught and learned through trial and error. They do a great job.

I’m not trying to get you to quit your day job. I’m just trying to get you to dream about what could be. Maybe you just needed to hear someone say, “ try that new thing!” If that’s you, shoot your shot! You CAN do this!
